A Sweet and Simple Birthday Card | New Catherine Pooler x Sizzix Collection – Home

There’s something so special about creating a handmade birthday card—it adds a personal touch that store-bought cards simply can’t match. With the brand-new Catherine Pooler Collection in collaboration with Sizzix, I had the perfect excuse to dive into some fresh supplies and create a card that’s both sweet and simple. This project combines soft colors, delicate florals, and a subtle textured background to create a design that feels timeless and elegant.

For my focal point, I chose the Whimsy Blooms Die, which instantly adds a cheerful and whimsical feel to the card. To bring these florals to life, I reached for Sizzix Surfacez Muted Colors cardstock. I went with pretty pinks for the flowers, pairing them with a very light brown for the centers and a light green for the stems. To give them more depth, I added shading with coordinating pinks and greens—this small detail made the die cuts look much more dimensional and lively.

For the background, I continued the floral theme with the Happy Garden Embossing Folder, also from the new collection. Instead of covering the entire card front, I cut down the embossed panel into a slim strip, which added texture without overwhelming the design. To help it stand out, I matted it with a thin strip of black cardstock, creating just the right amount of contrast.

I arranged the floral die cuts so they overlap both the embossed strip and the card base, which ties the elements together seamlessly. To finish the card, I stamped a “Happy Birthday” sentiment from one of Catherine Pooler’s older sets—the Up and Away stamp set. It was the perfect final touch to keep the design clean yet festive.

This card came together quickly but still feels thoughtful and polished. By pairing simple die cuts with soft shades, a touch of embossing, and a classic sentiment, I was able to create a versatile birthday card that would brighten anyone’s day.
