Hello crafty friends,
As a cardmaker, it’s not always I find myself in the zone where I can come up with something creative. Just like “Writer’s Block”, I would say “Crafter’s Block” is a real thing too, where we as crafters and card makers have days where we have to go looking for inspiration as our creative self completely shuts off!
Today I had plans to Color My Day, but I was totally out of any ideas. That’s when I decided to get inspired by the colors around me. I looked over my work table and came across the last card that I created for AECP, which was avery clean and simple Sympathy Card, with calm muted colors. I love the orange and blue color combination and decided to use that in my next project, but go a lot bolder and brighter with my colors.
Here’s a closer look at the project I created today –

Keeping in mind a very clean and simple card design with bright bold colors, I used bits of the Floral image from the Flourishing Garden outline Stamp Set. I was having a lot of fun with the No Line Watercoloring from my previous project. I decided to do the same here as well.
So this project is not just a color theme inspiration but also a technique inspiration.
I started by stamping this beautiful floral image onto a sheet of watercolor cardstock. I stamped it using a very light SSS Pawsitively Saturated Ink in the shade Melon, since I was planning on using orange for my flowers.
Instead of adding the whole entire focal point image on my card front, I decided to cut small parts of the flower and place them on opposite sides of the panel with a bold stamped sentiment on the center of the card front.

I colored my little flowers using Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers – Spring Garden Set. For the flower, I used Autumn Blaze and for my leaves, I used Moss. For the flower centers, I added dots of the Evening Gray shade.
Before I could adhere these die cut flowers onto the panel, I stamped the big “Sending Hugs” sentiment form the Alluring Orchid Stamp Set onto the center of the panel. I stamped it using SSS Clear Embossing Ink and heat embossed with the SSS Fine Gold Embossing Powder. I love the gold on this navy blue.

Once the water colors dried, I placed it on opposite edges of a navy blue panel of card stock. I wanted a panel that was really dark, that would match my pretty orange flowers. I would love to try this look using different color combinations. I stuck the flowers using some barely art glue.
Now that most of our card front is ready, next is about embellishing this card front. I added some Gold Hologram Sequin Mix from This Calls For Confetti to match the gold embossed sentiment. This is is closest matching gold sequin that I have for the Fine Gold Embossing Powder.

If you know me and my card making style, you will know that how ever clean and simple card I create, they are never complete without sparkle. I added some shine and sparkle to my flowers using Spectrum Noir Glitter Brush Pen.

I love how this card turned out. This was all about color and inspiration. I would love to recreate this using different color themes and focal points.
The Altenew Educator Certification Program is definitely a best opportunity to showcase my work and get in touch with all of the amazing crafters.
