Hello crafty friends!

I’m so excited to be participating in the Altenew June 2026 Release Instagram Hop today. The new release is packed with beautiful products, and for my project, I found inspiration in an unexpected place—nature.

With summer in full swing, I’ve been spending more time outdoors, admiring all the beautiful flowers blooming around me. During one of my walks, I came across a flower with the most striking blue and yellow color combination. It immediately caught my attention because it was a palette I had never considered for floral cardmaking. As someone who usually reaches for pinks, purples, yellows, and oranges when coloring flowers, this felt completely outside my comfort zone. Naturally, I had to challenge myself to recreate those colors on a card.

For my focal point, I used the new Build-A-Garden Leaning Lily set. Although the flower that inspired this card wasn’t a lily, I loved the open petals in this image and knew they would be perfect for showcasing this unique color palette. I stamped the image, heat embossed it with clear embossing powder, and used the coordinating layering stencils to build up the color. The combination of soft yellows and vibrant blues brought the flowers to life in a way I never expected.

To complement the floral image, I colored the leaves using Fresh Leaf and Reindeer Moss inks. These bright greens paired beautifully with the blues and yellows, creating a fresh and vibrant summer feel.

For the background, I wanted to add subtle texture without competing with the floral focal point. I reached for the new Flourishing Coral Stencil, another product from the June release. Even though the stencil has an ocean-inspired design, I wanted to show how versatile it can be. Using Fresh Leaf ink, I softly blended the stencil pattern across the background and added additional ink blending in the opposite corner to balance the overall composition.

Of course, no card of mine feels complete without a few splatters! I finished the background with black and gold splatters, allowing them to fall naturally across the panel to tie everything together. The metallic gold adds just the right amount of shine, while the black splatters provide contrast and visual interest.

To complete the card, I added dimension behind the floral image and sentiment before mounting everything onto an A2 card base. I especially love how the vibrant floral colors pop against the soft textured background.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope this project inspires you to look for color inspiration in unexpected places. Sometimes the most beautiful combinations are the ones we never planned to use.
