Who says you need a whole collection of new supplies to create something different? Sometimes, all it takes is a little change in technique! For today’s festive cardmaking project, I’m using the Arabesque Medallion set by Altenew to create two vibrant Diwali cards with completely different looks. This collection comes with coordinating stamps, dies, an embossing folder, and stencils, but I’m keeping things simple by using just the stamp set and coordinating stencils.

I started with my favorite pink and purple color combination, bringing in a little orange for an extra pop of color. The first card features a beautiful gold heat-embossed geometric design using Simon Says Stamp Ultra Gold embossing powder, layered stencil blending, and plenty of gold sparkle.

For the second card, I decided to experiment! I kept the exact same stencil layers, colors, and ink-blending techniques but skipped the stamped and gold embossed image altogether. I was initially unsure how the design would look without that beautiful gold detail, but I absolutely love how it turned out! While the first card has a more defined, elegant, and festive appearance, the second lets those vibrant colors take center stage. Both panels were finished with gold metallic splatters, hand-painted gold edges, and coordinating sentiment tags to bring everything together.

I love how versatile this Altenew collection is and how many possibilities it offers. You could even take this experiment further by incorporating the coordinating embossing folder or using the stencils directly on a die-cut medallion. So many possibilities from one single set! I hope these cards inspire you to look at your existing supplies differently and experiment with new techniques. You really don’t need a ton of supplies to create multiple designs with their own unique personalities. Now, which of these two Diwali cards is your favorite – the gold embossed beauty or the colorful, no-stamping version?
