Today, I’m excited to share a card project featuring the gorgeous Craft-A-Flower: Grand Dahlia Layering Die Set. Floral dies are always a favorite in my craft room, but whenever I work with layered botanical designs, my main goal is to make the petals look as soft, organic, and lifelike as possible. With a few simple shaping techniques and subtle color gradients, this blooming beauty came together effortlessly.
To build the blooms, I die-cut the petals and gave each layer a soft touch of ink blending. Keeping the ink light towards the tips while focusing a deeper shade near the base allowed the natural contours of the flower to emerge. The real magic, however, happened with the petal shaper tool. By gently curling and cupping each petal before assembling, the layers lifted naturally away from one another, giving the entire dahlia stunning, touchable dimension that instantly pops off the page.
For the backdrop, I wanted something subtle that added texture without competing with the focal florals. A clean white panel run through a textured embossing folder provided just the right amount of interest, creating a soft, tactile canvas. I arranged the vibrant blue blooms, their cheerful yellow centers, and the lush green foliage toward the center and bottom of the card front, letting the petals spill naturally across the textured background.
To complete the design, I added a bit of warm elegance. I heat-embossed the bold “HUGS” sentiment in brilliant metallic gold, nestled gently above the floral arrangement. Finally, a scatter of matching gold sequins around the blooms added just the right amount of sparkle and movement. Set against a coordinating pastel base, this card feels like a warm, dimensional hug ready to brighten someone’s mailbox!
