Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone with Blue Floral Cards!

For today’s card, I’m using the Altenew Briar Blossoms Bundle to create a beautiful floral design with a blue color palette. I usually reach for pinks and yellows when coloring flowers, so this was a fun opportunity to step outside my comfort zone!

I started by stamping the floral image onto two panels of white cardstock using Obsidian Black Pigment Ink. I then heat-embossed the images with clear embossing powder to give them that beautiful glossy finish I love.

For the flowers, I used the Marine Life Fresh Dye Ink Set, blending Blue Horizon from the center of the petals outward, followed by Ride the Wave and Navy to build depth and contrast. This light-to-dark blending technique adds beautiful dimension to the petals while keeping the colors soft and vibrant.

For the foliage, I used shades of green from the Mediterranean Glow collection and added Choco Hazelnut around the base of the leaves for a deeper, moodier look. I love how these earthy tones complement the blue flowers!

Once the stenciling was complete, I die-cut all the elements and ran them through the coordinating 3D embossing folder to add texture and detail. For the background, I used the Windows to Stillness 3D Embossing Folder, which adds subtle texture without distracting from the floral arrangement.

Finally, I arranged the flowers and leaves on the embossed white panel, using foam squares to add dimension, and finished the card with a simple “So Proud of You” sentiment from the same stamp set.

I love how this card turned out! The combination of blue blooms, moody foliage, and beautiful embossed details creates a floral design that feels both elegant and dimensional. I hope this inspires you to experiment with new color combinations in your next cardmaking project!
