Today’s project is a fun, interactive birthday card inspired by a playful carnival theme, created using supplies from the Simon Says Stamp June Card Kit. I stepped away from my usual clean-and-simple style to build a dimensional design that doubles as a gift card holder, complete with sliding tickets and whimsical details.

I started with patterned paper and used the Ephemera Slots Die to create interactive openings for a gift card and vintage-style tickets. A bold red card base helped enhance the carnival vibe, while layered elements like a popcorn box and cotton candy added color, texture, and charm.

To bring the scene to life, I added hand-colored popcorn pieces, fluffy cotton candy, and ticket accents from the Tim Holtz Ticket Book. I also experimented with a fluffy medium that creates a soft, puffy texture when heat set, adding extra dimension to the popcorn details.

This project felt especially nostalgic as it reminded me of childhood carnival visits filled with lights, rides, and popcorn treats. Even though it was a bit outside my comfort zone, I absolutely love how interactive and playful this card turned out.

I hope this inspires you to try adding interactive elements and storytelling details to your own handmade cards!
