Creating a Monochromatic Oak Leaf Card with Texture and Dimension

Clean and simple cards don’t have to be flat, and today’s project is the perfect example! For this card, I challenged myself to work with a monochromatic green color palette while adding as much texture and dimension as possible using products from the latest Simon Says Stamp Every Happiness release.

The focal point of this design is the beautiful Oak Leaf Stencil and Die Combo. I used the four layering stencils with Simon Says Stamp Positively Saturated Inks in Celery, Limelicious, Perfection, and Field to create a realistic oak leaf with soft, subtle shading. By using a light hand while ink blending, I achieved gentle color transitions that give the leaf a natural, elegant look without harsh contrast.

To complement the leaf, I created a textured background using the Circle Braids 3D Embossing Folder. The deeply embossed concentric braided pattern adds incredible interest while still allowing the monochromatic design to shine. I framed the embossed panel with the Sparkler Scallop Frame Die, adding a crisp white border that beautifully grounds the design.

For the sentiment, I die-cut the word “Blessed” multiple times for extra dimension and ink blended it with the same green shades used on the leaf to keep everything cohesive. A few loops of gold twine tucked behind the sentiment introduced just the right amount of warmth and shine, while a scattering of light yellow Positively Dazzling Gems tied everything together perfectly.

I absolutely love how this card turned out! It’s a wonderful reminder that you don’t need lots of colors to create an eye-catching design. By combining layering stencils, rich embossing, and dimensional die cuts, you can create an elegant card full of depth and visual interest. I can already see myself recreating this design in warm autumn tones for fall and Thanksgiving, but it would look equally beautiful in so many other color combinations.
