Hello crafty friends! Today, I’m sharing a fun, interactive birthday shaker card featuring the brand-new Favor Friendly Foxes embossing folder from the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember release. If you love stretching your supplies, this reverse coloring and blackout technique is a must-try.

I began by running heavy white cardstock through my die-cutting machine with the embossing folder. Instead of working on the raised side, I flipped the panel over to the debossed side. Using alcohol markers, I carefully colored in each of the recessed foxes with rich, warm shades of orange and cream, leaving the surrounding paper blank.

Next came the blackout magic. Holding a crisp black ink pad flat, I lightly swiped it directly across the raised surface of the panel. Because the colored foxes sit down inside the debossed wells, the ink only grazes the surrounding background. This direct-to-paper swipe creates an intense, dramatic contrast that instantly makes the warm little critters pop.

To turn the panel into a shaker, I die-cut a scalloped rectangle frame from white cardstock and stamped the classic “happy birthday…” sentiment across the bottom border. I backed the scalloped opening with acetate, framed the perimeter with foam tape to build a deep shaker well, and filled it with a generous mix of shimmering sequins before sealing the inked background in place.

After mounting the finished shaker unit onto an A2 card base, I added one final touch: a standalone colored fox embellishment popped up with foam tape right in the bottom corner. It breaks past the scalloped border, grounds the sentiment, and brings the whole forest scene together.
